Energy Savings

You 'condition' the air in your home to provide a comfortable living space. Whether you are cooling your living space in the summer, or are heating it in the winter; the outside air is constantly trying to penetrate your homes thermal barrier. The more the outside air mixes with the conditioned air, the harder your HVAC system has to work to keep your living space comfortable. Reliable Contracting performs what is called a Home Energy Audit. The Home Energy Audit is a scientific way to evaluate the overall energy efficiency of you house. The audit is a multi- step process which takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete.

The first step is a literal visual inspection of your home to look for structural problems which affect energy efficiency. This might include factors such as uninsulated crawl spaces or actual holes in your homes thermal barrier.

The second step in the process is a blower door test. The blower door test is performed by attaching a high velocity fan to a door frame. The fan draws airs out of the house creating negative pressure inside your house. Using a smoke pencil we can readily see where the outside air is leaking into the house. Using the latest technology, we are able to calculate heat loss on the existing state of your home.

The third step is thermal imaging of your house. Using our digital infrared camera we are able to see invisible areas of air penetration. This is a non-invasive way of finding problems which are many times hidden behind walls.

We next do a combustion analysis of your gas appliances. To assure that items such as your furnace and hot water heater are operating safely and efficiently; we use a combustion analyzer to test exiting flu gasses for to CO levels. Improper combustion is not only inefficient, it is also very dangerous.

The final step in the process is a detailed report which outlines an action plan to make your house more energy efficient.

The Home Energy Audit is a great investment in your home. Our recommendations will save you money on your heating and cooling bills, as well as creating a more comfortable living space for you and your family.
